Background of the Study
Environmental sustainability has become a focal point for businesses across the globe, with a growing recognition of the need to minimize environmental impact while pursuing economic growth. In Gombe Local Government Area (LGA), many local businesses engage in practices that impact the environment, either positively or negatively. However, the level of awareness and implementation of sustainable environmental practices remains inconsistent. This study aims to evaluate the environmental sustainability practices among local businesses in Gombe LGA, focusing on waste management, energy consumption, and resource use. The growing pressures from climate change, resource depletion, and environmental degradation necessitate that businesses adopt sustainable practices to safeguard both the environment and their long-term viability (Abubakar & Sule, 2024).
1.2 Statement of the Problem
While some local businesses in Gombe have started adopting sustainable practices, others continue to engage in activities that harm the environment, such as improper waste disposal, inefficient energy use, and unsustainable resource extraction. The lack of enforcement of environmental regulations and insufficient awareness of sustainability practices contribute to these environmental challenges. This study seeks to assess the extent to which local businesses in Gombe are embracing environmental sustainability practices and the factors that influence their decisions to do so.
